The design brief for a small bookstore specializing in architectural publications called for a high degree of expressive detailing reflective of the specific program. Ample storage for various media, a checkout desk, office, and an entry vestibule made up the project’s key requirements. The architectural response features a play between an Ipe rainscreen on the exterior and the steel / birch-ply interior. Construction details were developed to resolve moments where assembly layers are punctured or passed through, while controlling the transfer of heat, light and moisture.
